Neither Jon or I like watching sports so I planned on watching the Olympics opening ceremony but nothing more than that. I thought that I would have no interest in watching sports I’d never heard of (Men’s Keirin or Women’s 3000m Steeplechase anyone?) but I was wrong.

The kids and I have really enjoyed watching bits of different events, trampolining was a big hit with both of them. Ez kept running up to the screen and shouting at the telly when they bounced really high and Annie sat there demanding lessons so she could make it her job too.

Annie also enjoyed the steeplechase because there was lots of running and jumping and they all wore brightly coloured, ‘sports shoes’. She did keep telling them off however for going over the water jump without putting their welly boots on first, “naughty ladies now your pretty sport shoes are wet & you might slip over”!

It wasn’t long before Annie asked to do her own kiddie olympics. She really gave us no warning so we did the best we could, she’s just lucky we had a chocolate gold medal in the cupboard, as you do.
She did Football, the Short Garden Sprint against Daddy and then finished off with some Girl’s Individual Trampolining and Bum Bouncing.

As she was the only person competing in all three events she ended up winning and we presented her with her gold medal up on the winners podium (baby climbing frame).
She was so excited, she kissed the medal, held it aloft and stared at it with pure joy, her pride was palpable.

I could have been a really evil Mummy and not told her that the medal was made of chocolate because she really had no idea. Being able to eat her prize made it even more special, but now she does think all gold medals are edible.
