This weekend we all went away to meet up with my family and celebrate Mum’s 60th birthday.
All 8 of us piled into a lovely Forest Holidays lodge in the Forest of Dean, complete with hot tub and gorgeous huge windows and settled in for a long weekend of celebrating.
Both kids thought the hot tub was great, despite the photo below of Ezra wailing, he just wanted me to hurry up and get in instead of photographing the event!
Benno and Matthew created a ballon forest in the lounge and we brought along a piñata. I was really worried about breaking the piñata before we arrived but turns out I needn’t have worried, that thing was almost indestructible. Breaking the pinata open almost killed the birthday girl and gave us all a good laugh!
Mum got lots of lovely gifts, and a gnome! She began a Pandora collection with earrings, bracelet, charms and a voucher to buy even more. We made her a, ‘This is Your Life’ book which made her cry and Dad surprised her with an IOU for a new iPad when the range is updated later in the year.
When we weren’t celebrating Mum’s birthday Annie learnt how to be a forest explorer with Ranger Chris, we played, explored the forest, climbed tree stumps, the kids made friends at the playground and did lots of relaxing in the gorgeous light.
This weekend I learnt that I love underfloor heating, massive windows are like balm for my soul, Jon is not allergic to wasp stings, I’m not a huge drinker anymore and that makes me happy. Also, Ezra is too long for a travel cot, Annie can think up a cute name for a moth in 2 seconds flat, wild boar are huge and that if I take Annie for an adventure walk in the forest I should probably consult a map first lest we get a little bit lost.
We had a lovely weekend away and hopefully the 4 of us can return to stay again in the lodges again in the not too distant future. I think Mum had a good 60th birthday and it was great to catch up with everyone again.
