Origrami Retroprint Review

07.7.13

I love Instagram and have been searching for the perfect way of printing my favourite photos. I’ve seen lots of different options but none really grabbed me until I found Origrami.

Origrami print your Instagram photos as Polaroid style prints and the coolest part is that they’re double sided. You have your super duper Instagram photo on the front and on the back they print either a retro camera design or a map showing where your photo was taken (providing it has been geotagged).

When I saw their website I was hooked. The ordering process was simple, the toughest part was choosing which 36 photos I loved most of all and wanted to have printed. Actaully that’s a lie, the hardest part was waiting for them too fall through my letter box onto the doormat!

As soon as I opened the envelope I was in love, the Instagram prints come in a stunning keepsake box, designed to look like a little camera. It was so gorgeous that as soon as Annie saw it she told me it was hers, and when Ez entered the room he decided he wanted to keep it too! Too bad for them that I’m not prepared to share, maybe they can have the boxes from my next orders.

The Origrami prints are printed onto 250gsm satin paper meaning that they are heavy duty, strong enough to withstand inspection by an inquisitive 16 month old. The satin finish leaves the prints looking classy and resistant to fingerprints – an added bonus in our house.

Too often prints look totally different from what you see on your iPhone or screen, but not this time, I was super impressed with the colour representation, the Instagram print I held in my hand was exactly what I saw on my computer. There was no colour correction or fiddling with my photo which made my heart sing.

My only grumble was that I hadn’t thought to geotag any of my photos. The map that Origrami print on the back of the prints looks lovely and is a great way of adding more detail to the photo. It’s almost like having journalling on the back, telling the story behind the shot. I can’t complain though, I love the simple drawings of the retro camera and the bright colour backgrounds.

I am so happy with my Origrami Retroprints, they’re gorgeous, printed on thick card stock, well presented, have free shipping and all for only AUS$20 which works out at about £14.

I’ve displayed as many as I could fit onto the ribbon in our kitchen and the rest will probably end up on the wall above my Mac so I can see them while I work. They really are fab, they’d make a great present for my Mum for Mothers Day, but again, I’m not sharing any from this batch, maybe I’ll be more generous with my next Origrami order!

Looks great. I guess you’ll be geotagging all your photos from now on… (do you have an iphone or a droid?)

I think if they’re not taken at home then they’ll get geotagged, it seems a shame to miss out on those gorgeous map graphics. I use an iPhone so have been on Instagram since the beginning ;-)
