Point + Shoot – Housebound

5.11.12

This past weekend Jon went off to his cousin’s wedding. We were all supposed to go but then the pox struck and so I got to stay home with the kiddos while he went off and represented us.

Obviously Jonny took the car so the kiddos and I decided to spend the Saturday snuggled up indoors doing fun things to make up for missing the wedding.

We baked sprinkle cookies at Annie’s request. She decided that she needed to be wearing a fairy headdress, tutu and bracelet to do this instead of an apron!Point + Shoot

Annie made some gorgeous autumnal artwork. I do love Pinterest and all the awesome ideas it provides me with.Point + ShootPoint + Shoot

Ez practised his cruising along the sofa whilst grinding his teeth – ick.Point + Shoot

We Annie ate healthy snacksPoint + Shoot

We did a ‘spot check’ and ate more healthy snacks. They all looked dry and apparently weren’t itchy so I think it’s on the way out. Point + ShootPoint + Shoot

Ez provided the drama for the afternoon. Apparently it’s too much effort to say, ‘I’m rather tired, do you mind if I head up for a nap?’, having a full out crying session gets the message across much better!Point + Shoot

I came back in from cooking dinner to find that Annie had gotten out the electronic walker, pushed it to the chair and sat Ez in front of it – what an awesome big sister.Point + ShootPoint + Shoot

Then we ate dinner and after I’d tucked the kiddos up in bed I ate some foul but addictive microwave popcorn and watched rubbish on the telly until bedtime!

What did you get up this weekend?

Point + Shoot: Autumnal Pick Your Own Farm

22.10.12

This weekend we went over to the pick your own farm to have a stroll and so Annie could pick a pumpkin.

I must have gotten the dates all muddled in my head though because I didn’t realise that we arrived at the pick your own farm 30 minutes before any of their Halloween activities for the week actually started. This meant the big wooden bins that last year were piled with pumpkins were empty and didn’t start getting filled until we drove off site – Mummy fail right there!

Not to be put off we went for a walk around the fields to see the pumpkins growing and to see how big the ‘borrow a Christmas tree’ trees were getting.

I love the idea of renting a live, potted Christmas tree, then returning it to the farm in the New Year so it can grow for another 12 months before we get to rent it again, might have to sign up for this scheme.

After our walk around the fields we had our traditional ‘stop by the playground’. Everything was all soggy so we spent ages in the sandpit, burying feet and pretending to dig up the road, a la Mr Bull from Peppa Pig.

There was one bin outside the shop with pumpkins in so before we left Annie picked a baby one and had a great time using the ‘pumpkin sizer’, pushing it through the hole and watching it roll down the ramp.

Our plan is to carve the pumpkin on Friday so it doesn’t go all manky before Halloween actually arrives. Then we can roast the seeds and tick another thing off our autumn bucket list.

Have you gotten your pumpkin yet?

At the Park

18.10.12

Yesterday afternoon we had a lovely playdate and walked over to the park with the kiddos. Annie had a fab time, and I will admit that I did too thanks to the company, the hilarious kiddos (who sound weirdly alike) and the beautiful light.

It’s a lovely quiet park and there’s so much space for the kids to run around. The only complaint was that the zip line had been removed but they didn’t let that spoil their playtime.

Annie is the queen of the skinny jeans recently and it was barely 2 minutes before they were all muddy on the knees and bottom – kiddos!

Ez loved the swings but refused to lift his arms over the bar or hold on, so spent the whole time looking like a limp rag doll. Despite this he loved the swings and had a proper moan when I took him out.

I love late autumn afternoons and their gorgeous light!

Annie surprised me by using the ‘tightrope’, last time she didn’t really want to know but I turned around at one point to find her traversing along it quite happily and really enjoying herself.

There was a lot of complaining from Annie when it was time to leave the park, but this was all forgotten when we got back to our friends house and the girls swapped their jeans and t-shirts for a ballerina dress and a princess outfit. Annie looked like a proper pickle, wearing a blue Cinderella dress, with pulled up, stripy socks and pink fluffy slippers!

I should apologise to Jenny though as Annie spent the whole afternoon calling her son by every name under the sun except his own. She did keep telling him he was her favourite baby though so I guess it’s swings and roundabouts.

What is your favourite time of day to visit your local park?
