New Skills

3.05.12

Ezra has shown no interest at all in learning to move about, all he’s ever wanted to do is stand up or lie down and people watch. This is why it really surprised me that late Monday afternoon he started rolling onto his side and by Tuesday lunchtime had taught himself to roll over (left & right) from his back to his tummy.

He was very proud of this achievement but the new knowledge seemed to push some pre-learned stuff out of his head as he now seems to have forgotten how to roll from his tummy to his back, this results in him keep getting stuck on his tummy and calling out to be rescued – doh!

Tuesday night we also discovered that Ezra is very keen to feed himself, so much so that I had to give him a spoon of his own or sit there all night while he tried moving food from his bowl to his mouth using his fingers (such a slow and messy process).

After the meal I tried to wrestle the spoon away from him but he refused to give it up so I decided to get my own back by taking his photo instead. I can’t decide if he looks more like a tiny conductor or a little Harry Potter, ‘accio food’.

The two of them really crack me up, they’re always trying to make the other person laugh.

Sweet Spot

2.05.12

My biggest gripe with British houses is that they seem to have tiny windows compared to North American or Australian houses. This time of year Annie’s room and our lounge usually get some nice light in the afternoons but this manky weather has wiped it all out and so I’ve been forced to take most of the kid’s 366 photos in front of the French windows in the kitchen. Turns out though that the light there is gorgeous at dinner time and it’s quickly become my new favourite spot in the house for photos.

I can sit Ez Bear in his high chair and snap away without him getting grumpy and the tray on his chair doubles as a nice little reflector, so it’s win win!
Annie is still not a massive fan of having her photo taken, she either refuses to look at me or runs around the place but sometimes I’m treated to a wry smile and those are good days :)

Growing Up

25.04.12

Ez will be 6 months old this Friday so it’s time to think about weaning again. We tried starting him early a couple of months ago but his ‘happy spit-up’ problem became a thousand times worse so we shelved the idea. If we thought he was keen to try solid food back then he’s positively beside himself now, we can’t eat a thing without being watched by a pair of baleful and longing eyes, it’s a bit disturbing!

We’ve decided to do a mixture of baby led weaning and regular style, I want him to get to grips with solid food quicker than Annie did but my (slightly) OCD nature means that the mess that baby lead weaning alone generates would see me carted off to a soft, padded room somewhere.

Today’s lunch was broccoli, the second image is my favourite, his cheeky little tongue and the slight smile is just perfection.

Broccoli was a bigger hit than chicken, I think he preferred the texture, but it wasn’t long before he ran into trouble…
“No that’s not right, pesky veg”

“Listen up, I’m the boss of you, you go where I tell you, ok?”

“Ooof”

“Ok, you win this round…”

All the time Ez was trying to eat Annie kept chipping in with ‘helpful’ advice, ‘no Ezra, it’s not for eyes it’s for mouths’, ‘no Ezra, it’s not for hair, put it in your mouth’, eventually she gave up on him and concentrated on eating her lunch. When she’d finished she turned to me and said, ‘it’s going to take a long time for Ezra to learn isn’t it Mummy?’, yes kiddo, it is!
