Origrami Retroprint Review

7.03.13

I love Instagram and have been searching for the perfect way of printing my favourite photos. I’ve seen lots of different options but none really grabbed me until I found Origrami.

Origrami print your Instagram photos as Polaroid style prints and the coolest part is that they’re double sided. You have your super duper Instagram photo on the front and on the back they print either a retro camera design or a map showing where your photo was taken (providing it has been geotagged).

When I saw their website I was hooked. The ordering process was simple, the toughest part was choosing which 36 photos I loved most of all and wanted to have printed. Actaully that’s a lie, the hardest part was waiting for them too fall through my letter box onto the doormat!

As soon as I opened the envelope I was in love, the Instagram prints come in a stunning keepsake box, designed to look like a little camera. It was so gorgeous that as soon as Annie saw it she told me it was hers, and when Ez entered the room he decided he wanted to keep it too! Too bad for them that I’m not prepared to share, maybe they can have the boxes from my next orders.

The Origrami prints are printed onto 250gsm satin paper meaning that they are heavy duty, strong enough to withstand inspection by an inquisitive 16 month old. The satin finish leaves the prints looking classy and resistant to fingerprints – an added bonus in our house.

Too often prints look totally different from what you see on your iPhone or screen, but not this time, I was super impressed with the colour representation, the Instagram print I held in my hand was exactly what I saw on my computer. There was no colour correction or fiddling with my photo which made my heart sing.

My only grumble was that I hadn’t thought to geotag any of my photos. The map that Origrami print on the back of the prints looks lovely and is a great way of adding more detail to the photo. It’s almost like having journalling on the back, telling the story behind the shot. I can’t complain though, I love the simple drawings of the retro camera and the bright colour backgrounds.

I am so happy with my Origrami Retroprints, they’re gorgeous, printed on thick card stock, well presented, have free shipping and all for only AUS$20 which works out at about £14.

I’ve displayed as many as I could fit onto the ribbon in our kitchen and the rest will probably end up on the wall above my Mac so I can see them while I work. They really are fab, they’d make a great present for my Mum for Mothers Day, but again, I’m not sharing any from this batch, maybe I’ll be more generous with my next Origrami order!

My Kiddo’s Feet

26.09.12

I might be a little bit obsessed with my kiddo’s feet. Looking back through this weeks photos it seems I took feet pictures 5 days out of 7.

Ez Bear’s feet are still little and I love how he curls his toes when he’s trying to reach something, like he’s drawing on some secret, foot based, well of power.

Children's feetAlso he got some new socks this week and they may be the cutest boy socks ever. Dino skull and crossbones, a pair that match his American football top and a gorgeous stripy pair. Also, as he’s approaching his first birthday, it’s time to start buying socks with grippy soles for his tentative steps and stumbles.

Annie’s feet are gorgeous, sometimes in socks, sometimes with painted toenails, and sometimes far too close to my face as she attempts to scale me to sit on my head – don’t ask!Children's feet

I don’t know where my love of my kiddos feet came from, I mean, their faces are cuter, their hair smells better and their hands are far less likely to kick me in the stomach when they’re having a carry up but there is something awesome about their feet.

I think it’s because their feet give away their age, Ez, being a baby, still has enough chub to have little foot dimples and now that Annie is all ‘grown up’, her feet, like the rest of her, are willowy and lean.

I love their toes, how Annie holds her feet when she’s watching a movie like she’d hold our hand if we were closer and the identical giggle they do if I blow a raspberry on the soul of their feet. When I change Ezra’s nappy I often pretend to nibble on his toes and it results in a proper filthy laugh from him, he likes it so much that when we’re playing on the floor he tries to put his feet into my mouth so I don’t go hungry!

In short, feet may well be my favourite kiddo body part, what bit of your kiddo could you not help nibbling on when they were small?

Point + Shoot: Road Trip

16.07.12

This weekend we took a road trip to gatecrash my folk’s holiday in Devon. They stay at the same caravan site we did when we were kids and I love going back to see how it’s changed. This was Annie’s first time inside my parent’s caravan and to say she was excited about it is an understatement!

On the drive down we went through rain, sunshine and chilly overcast weather, in fact at one point I had to put the seat warmer on to cure my shivers. By the time we got there the sun came out and it felt like a proper July day, the first one we’ve had all month. We got to tick another item off the bucket list – flying a kite. I’d love to say that Annie was really impressed with it but after the first flight she got bored really quickly and went off to the play area while I ran about the field on my own like an oversized child! After lunch Annie ate an entire punnet of raspberries, Ez had a nap in his car seat and we chilled in the awning.

The thing that Annie seemed most enamoured with was the steps up to the caravan door, she must have been up and down them at least 300 times. You’d have thought that all that exercise, running around and playing would have worn her out, it did not. I had a vision in my head of at bed time, getting the kids in their jammies, putting them in the car and driving home with them quietly asleep in the back. We could then carry their tiny sleeping forms up to bed without waking them. Of course the kiddos decided that this was a dumb idea, Ez was wide awake for 30 minutes, slept for an hour and then woke up wide awake and ready to play. His sister refused to sleep at all, she was still awake at 9.30pm, a time she’s not seen since she was a few months old and had no real sleep routine.

We had a brilliant day, the weather was gorgeous, the best day in the last 4 or 5 weeks without doubt. It was lovely to see my folks and watch the kiddos enjoying the ‘caravan lifestyle’, and the road trip itself was fun, despite my foot falling asleep and the backache I now have this morning.

I decided to document the trip using only my iPhone to test out my VSCO Cam app. I love the app, I bought it when it first came out but stopped using it as it was so slow, but since they updated it the speed has improved and I’ve really fallen in love with it.

Linking up with Lou’s Point + Shoot, pop over and have a look you won’t be disappointed…
