My Geek

This morning at breakfast she said, ‘ I have long teeth and go “grrr”, I’m a rancor and you’re Malakili‘. I don’t know how many adults know the name of the guy who looks after Jabba’s rancor, I’m fairly certain it’s not something most 2 years old like to chat about.

We sit down at least once a day to read through the Star Wars Character Encyclopaedia, we name everyone in the book, talk about which movie they’re in and what she’s seen them doing. She likes to watch me play Lego Star Wars and the day she is old enough to work the controller and play it herself may well be one of the happiest of her life!

At bed time she likes you to make up stories about her favourite characters as she snuggles down underneath her Clone Wars Duvet and hugs her R2-D2 noisy keyring. I’ve even asked a friend to send over some Star Wars fabric from the States so I can make her a blanket with her favourite characters on.

So far she’s only seen the original trilogy, she knows there’s 3 more films she’s not seen yet and she’s excited by watching them. I do worry that she’ll love Jar Jar Binks and I’ll have to disown her but that’s a bridge to cross at some point in the future!

Under the Weather

Our house has spent the last 2 weeks in the grip of some horrible bug that Annie brought home from nursery. We’ve been coughing, sneezing, aching, sweating and shivering, all of us at various stages of ‘unwell-ness’.

Annie had it quite badly and spent the worst part of a week complaining of a stomach ache. She spent most of the time in her jammies, clutching a water bottle and toy, strewn across various bits of furniture or the floor. She threw up for the first time in ages and her toddler brian connected the bowl she was sick into with the act of being sick, so every time she saw it she panicked because she thought it would make her poorly again. She swung wildly between being a ‘brave little thing’, and an, ‘awful whinge-monster’ which I guess is a nearly three year old’s prerogative.

While the 3 of us were ill, Ezra remained aloof, he never once gave any suggestion that he was coming down with anything, even after his second lot of jabs at the dr’s. Instead he suddenly started looking about 3 months older, developed a stupidly cute belly laugh and found his hands finally. Here he is obviously pondering the cure for the common cold ;-)

Engrossed

She will play with her Peppa Pig toys for hours, lining them up, driving them to the park, putting them on the merry go round, then driving them home and letting them watch a bit of telly before putting them all to bed.

You will also see toys being put on the naughty mat if they do something wrong and this is possibly the funniest thing ever, watching her put on her stern voice, telling them off, putting them down and walking away before making them apologise for their various misdemeanours and giving them big cuddles. She is an ‘interesting’ view into how my parenting tactics are viewed by a toddler!

Play Mats & Kiddos

January 28th, 2012

Ezra is finally at an age where he enjoys just chilling on his play mat, he’s not really started reaching for the toys yet but I don’t think it’ll be long. Annie likes to ‘help’ him find his hands and is constantly hovering over him, grabbing his fists and pushing them into the toys, ‘good bashing Ez Bear’ she shouts triumphantly. It’s great too see how much she loves him, I just hope she always thinks he’s this awesome, even when he’s crawling and shoving all her toys into his mouth…

Yes his hands are slightly blue, I have no idea why as he was toasty warm, I think the poor guy just has dodgy circulation like his Mum.

If Annie is around it’s a good bet that Ezra is watching her intently, I hope it’s because she’s interesting and he loves her and not simply that he likes to know where the highest threat-level in the room is at all times!

Goodbye 2011

January 1st, 2012

This past year seems to have flown by, Annie went from this to this and Ez went from this to this:

Annie discovered an obsession with Peppa Pig and Star Wars, my love for my Kindle grew and grew, Ezra learnt to do the cutest smiles known to man and Jon carried on his tradition of cooking awesome food for one and all (particularly roast dinners).

My biggest achievement this year is finally growing a pair and searching for new friends for me and Annie. I’m not sure why I put it off for so long because I discovered a group of very lovely ladies and kiddos who are great fun to hang out with. I am eternally grateful that Emma has agreed to be my gym buddy and that our crazy toddlers seem to be such fast friends (and very cute to boot!).

2012 promises to bring weight loss for me and the man, weaning for Ez, potty training for Annie and a whole host of adventures that we can’t even start to guess at, it’s kind of exciting really.
